Meet the Hastings Partners

Stephen Toulson

Stephen has been with the firm for over 35 years and is based in the Hastings office having lived in the area all his life.  As a general accountancy practitioner and senior statutory auditor he deals with individuals, small businesses and large corporations.

He has a team of friendly and professional staff supporting him who have been part of the firm for many years.  His accessibility and grounded advice are what make him a valued part of the team.

He is actively involved in a number of local charities and at the weekend enjoys watching Hastings Utd play football.

Paul Garside

Paul is the firm’s Managing Partner and a senior statutory auditor.  He started his professional career with a large international practice in London auditing companies in both the UK and Europe.  He joined the firm in 1979 having decided that he preferred dealing with small and medium clients rather than large public companies.  Paul leads a group of accountants and tax advisers providing a full range of services to both corporate and private clients.  He is responsible for the audits of some of the firm’s major clients and is an expert in advising solicitors and other legal professionals.

Great client service is very important to Paul and he strives to ensure that all his clients’ financial needs are efficiently and pro actively serviced by the firm.

Paul is training to become a private pilot.  He also enjoys sailing, fishing and regularly visits France.

Richard Young

Richard is head of the firm’s audit department and advises small and medium owner managed businesses on all aspects of auditing, accounting, taxation and VAT matters.

He enjoys working with new and fast track businesses, advising on business structure and how best to extract profits in the most tax efficient way.  Richard has a wealth of experience in dealing with a wide range of charitable organisations including schools.

Richard is a sports fan, active gym member and occasional golfer.  He is also a long suffering Arsenal supporter.

Karen Braddel

Karen’s career in tax began in 1977 and as the Private Client Partner she has a wealth of experience helping individuals and families mitigate their current and future tax liabilities ensuring the successful transition of wealth to the next generation.

She is a member of the Society of Trust and Estate Practitioners and the Association of Tax Technicians and is responsible for the majority of the Trust cases in the firm.  To complement this she is professionally trained in Will drafting, Probate and Lasting Powers of Attorney.

Karen helps demystify tax for her clients and it is important to her that they understand why she makes certain recommendations to them so they can clearly see the benefits of one choice over another.

Outside of work she follows Formula 1 racing and supports the McLaren team. She is also a keen gardener and always has a project underway.
