Clive Cowley

Clive Cowley has been part of the Deeks Evans team, based in Tunbridge Wells, since June 2002 and is a payroll manager at the firm, looking after 65 to 75 payrolls each month.

“In addition, I am tasked with general administration duties when it comes to our own accounts as a business,” says Clive. “I work closely with Partner Stephen Moger and get involved with preparing client statements. I also input sales invoices onto our system for the Tunbridge Wells office.”

Clive joined Deeks Evans from another accountancy firm in Tunbridge Wells, where he had worked for 14 years, also in an administration role.

He began his career at a firm of accountants based in Heathfield.

“My family had lived in London until I was 14 years old when we made the move to Heathfield,” says Clive. “Through my new school in the town, I started doing a work placement with a firm of accountants one day a week. Then, in August 1969, I was asked if I'd like a full-time job there, as somebody was leaving, which I started in September.”

While there, an old school friend told him about an opportunity with a firm of accountants in Uckfield, so he moved there for a few years, before being offered a role with a client who worked in the poultry industry. After that, his career led him to Tunbridge Wells.

Clive says that he enjoys the consistency of his role with Deeks Evans.

“I tend to know what I'm doing from one week to another, depending on which week of the month it is and I quite like that,” says Clive. “I like a regimented approach.”

Asked what he'd say to a potential client of Deeks Evans, Clive says: “I would have no hesitation recommending Deeks Evans; the customer service here is second to none. From a personal perspective, I'd say we are a friendly team and we all get on really well. We work hard but we also find time for a laugh along the way.”

Clive has lived in Bexhill-on-Sea for a number of years and although he has recently reached retirement age, he hopes to continue at Deeks Evans for a few years yet.

“My Dad worked at Gatwick Airport until he was 85,” says Clive. “I'm not sure I want to still be working then… but I'm not ready to put my feet up just yet.”
